Where to Stay on Koh Phi Phi: Best Areas and Hotels

Koh Phi Phi Don is the inhabited island in the Phi Phi archipelago, the one with the hotels, the bars, the longtail boats, and the isthmus village that gets photographed from the viewpoint. Phi Phi Leh (Maya Bay) is the uninhabited island you visit on a day trip. All accommodation is on Phi Phi Don.

The island has no roads and no cars. Movement is by foot or longtail boat. The village of Ton Sai sits on a narrow isthmus about 300 metres wide, with Ton Sai Bay (the ferry pier side) on the south and Loh Dalum Bay on the north. Long Beach stretches south of the isthmus; Laem Tong is a separate bay on the island’s northeast tip, accessible only by boat. Your choice of area determines noise level, beach quality, and how easily you can reach the pier for tours.

Ton Sai Village: central but loud

Ton Sai is where the ferries dock and where most of the island’s restaurants, tour operators, dive shops, bars, and budget guesthouses are concentrated. If you want to be in the middle of everything, Ton Sai delivers, but the bar strip runs until 2am and the sound carries through the village. Budget rooms here tend to be directly behind or above the entertainment, which keeps costs down but limits sleep.

The pier-side beach (Ao Ton Sai) is not suitable for swimming. It is a working boat beach. The swimming and beach experience in this area comes from Loh Dalum Bay, a short walk through the village to the north side.

Budget (฿700–1,400/night):

PP Erawan Palms Resort: A short walk from the pier, with air-conditioned rooms and a small pool. Approximately ฿900–1,300/night as of 2026. Better maintained than most in this price range and quiet enough despite the village location.

Phi Phi Nice Beach Resort: On the Loh Dalum side of the village rather than the pier side, which gives it better beach proximity and slightly less noise. Fan rooms from approximately ฿700; air-con from ฿1,000.

Mid-range (฿1,800–3,000/night):

PP Princess Resort: One of the better-positioned mid-range properties on the island, set on the Loh Dalum beach. Pool, restaurant, and comfortable rooms. Approximately ฿1,800–2,800/night depending on room type and season. The north-facing beach here has calmer water and less boat traffic than the pier side.

Phi Phi Banyan Villa: Set into the hillside above Ton Sai with sea views across both bays. Quieter than ground-floor village properties despite the central location. Approximately ฿1,500–2,500/night.

Loh Dalum Bay: better swimming, still within the village

Loh Dalum is the north-facing beach of the Ton Sai isthmus, separated from the ferry pier by about 300 metres of village. The water here is calmer and cleaner than the pier side, the beach is sandier, and the view across the bay toward the limestone cliffs is the iconic Phi Phi photograph at sunset.

Most of what faces Loh Dalum Bay falls into the mid-range tier. The beach bar strip here runs in the evening but quietens earlier than the Ton Sai side. This area suits visitors who want the village convenience and the beach experience without fully committing to either the noise of the bar zone or the seclusion of Long Beach.

Phi Phi Andaman Legacy Resort: Directly on Loh Dalum Bay, with air-conditioned rooms and a beachfront terrace. Approximately ฿2,000–3,200/night as of 2026. The position is the draw, right on the bay with easy access to the village and pier.

Blanco Beach Bar and Hostel: At the east end of Loh Dalum, a hostel property with private rooms as well as dorms. Private rooms from approximately ฿1,200–1,800. The beach bar is attached, which suits the crowd that comes here; for anyone wanting quiet evenings, it is not the right choice.

Long Beach (Hat Yao): quieter, better for swimming

Long Beach is on the southeast coast, about 1.5 km from Ton Sai pier. Getting there is either a 20-minute walk over the headland path or a 5-minute longtail hop for approximately ฿50–80 per boat.

The beach faces south, has consistently clear water, and is the best place on the island for swimming and casual snorkelling at its rocky eastern end. It is considerably quieter than anything in the Ton Sai area: no bars attached to guesthouses, and noise from the village does not carry this far. For anyone who has done the Ton Sai scene and wants something different, or for couples and families who prioritise a usable beach, Long Beach is the right base.

Budget (฿1,000–1,800/night):

Long Beach Bungalows: One of the original guesthouses on Hat Yao. Fan bungalows and some air-con rooms with direct beach access. Approximately ฿1,000–1,800/night for a private bungalow. Basic facilities and an excellent beach position.

Mid-range (฿2,000–3,500/night):

Viking Nature Resort: A more polished option on the Long Beach hillside, with air-conditioned bungalows, a garden setting, and a pool. Approximately ฿2,000–3,500/night. Better maintained than the budget end of Long Beach, with some sea views from the hillside position.

Paradise Pearl Bungalow: Closer to the beach, with good-sized air-con rooms in a garden setting. Approximately ฿1,800–2,800/night as of 2026. A reliable mid-market option that is popular with snorkellers and divers.

Long Beach is the single best-value decision on the island. You get the best accessible beach, genuine quiet, and a short longtail back to the pier whenever you want restaurants or tours.

Laem Tong: the secluded north

Laem Tong is a separate bay on the island’s northeast tip, reachable only by longtail from Ton Sai pier (approximately 20 to 25 minutes, ฿80–150 per person, though resort guests usually get included transfers). There is no path connection to the rest of the island. A handful of exclusive resorts occupy the bay, along with a Chao Leh (sea gypsy) village at its northern end.

The beach at Laem Tong is among the cleanest and least crowded on the island. The snorkelling directly off the beach is better than anything on the isthmus side, and the atmosphere is completely removed from the Ton Sai scene.

Zeavola Resort: The most consistently praised luxury property on Phi Phi Don. 52 Thai-style cottages in a coconut-grove setting at the tip of the cape, adults-only, beachfront. Known for service and design that stands clearly apart from the rest of the island’s options. Rooms from approximately ฿6,000–15,000+/night as of 2026. The premium is real, but so is the contrast.

Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort: A larger resort on Ao Lo Bakao, the bay south of Laem Tong on the east coast. Multiple pools, beach, restaurant, and spa. More mainstream than Zeavola but at a similar remote-island premium. Approximately ฿5,000–9,000/night. Better suited to families who want facilities rather than the stripped-back setting of Zeavola.

Both properties include longtail transfers. This area is only worth the premium if you genuinely want to stay removed from the village; for anyone who wants regular access to Ton Sai restaurants, tours, or the ferry pier, the longtail logistics become a recurring friction.

Getting to Koh Phi Phi

From Krabi Town: passenger ferry approximately 2 hours, ฿300–350 as of 2026. Speedboat from Ao Nang: approximately 45 minutes, ฿800–1,000. From Phuket’s Rassada Pier: ferry approximately 2 hours, ฿350–450; speedboat approximately 45 minutes, ฿700–900. Ferries run multiple times daily in high season; schedules reduce from May to October. Seasonal tips

Peak season is December to February, with Christmas and New Year at maximum capacity. Book accommodation 3–4 weeks ahead minimum during this period; popular properties fill entirely. July and August bring a second influx of European visitors: book at least 2 weeks ahead. April to June is the best shoulder season for value and manageable crowds. May to October is the monsoon: some guesthouses close, boat services reduce, and departures can be cancelled on rough-weather days. October is the quietest month of the year on Phi Phi, with prices 30–50% below peak, though sea conditions can be unpredictable.

The gap between mid-range and luxury on Koh Phi Phi is wider than on most Thai islands. There is almost nothing in the ฿3,500–5,000 bracket: the market moves from mid-range directly to full resort tier.
