  Nine-day Taoist festival held in Phuket Town each year during the ninth lunar month. Known for elaborate street processions, firewalking, and ritual self-mortification. One of the most intense cultural events in Southeast Asia.

• Loy Krathong & Yi Peng Lantern Festival Thailand · chiang mai

  Loy Krathong sees Thais float small decorated baskets on rivers and waterways across the country. In Chiang Mai, it coincides with Yi Peng — thousands of sky lanterns released simultaneously. One of Thailand's most visually spectacular events.

  Thailand's premier arts, music, and sustainability festival held at The Fields at Siam Country Club, Pattaya. Multi-day event with international artists, food markets, wellness activities, and art installations. Tickets sell out well in advance.

• Chiang Mai Flower Festival

  Annual festival celebrating the cool-season blooms of northern Thailand. Floats covered in tropical flowers parade through Chiang Mai, with exhibitions at Nong Buak Haad Park. Best time of year to visit for cool temperatures and colour.

• Makha Bucha Day

  Thailand

  One of Thailand's most important Buddhist holidays, commemorating the spontaneous gathering of 1,250 monks before the Buddha. Candlelit circumambulation ceremonies take place at temples nationwide after dark. Alcohol sales are prohibited.
